CHRISTIAN LIVING - LESSON 5 A - Notes
The Heart Of Revival
You will need your Bible and a pen & notebook to complete these lessons. You should be able to copy and paste these outlines to your word processor and print them without difficulty if you so desire. We recommend you record in your note book deep thoughts or questions that may arise as you study, and certainly record all things God reveals to your heart. Look over these notes frequently and use them even as you pray. God will cause you to grow in wisdom and understanding. Keep your note book with you throughout the day as much as possible to record all God reveals to you and to review the things you have learned. Look up all bible verses in this study. Highlight or mark them in your bible. It is Gods Word speaking directly to you.
We also recommend you make a habit of memorizing a scripture each week. This not only helps get the Word deep in your heart, but is also an excellent mental exercise.
THE HEART OF REVIVAL
The impact of the ministers in this photo (See Lesson 5 Keynote presentation), the resulting revival and the faith they walked in has touched millions around the world.
John Lake is seated with Azusa Street revival leader William J. Seymour. Standing from left to right, Mr. Adams, healing evangelist F.F. Bosworth and British preacher Thomas Hezmalhalch, who later accompanied John Lake to South Africa on a mission.
John Lake was born in Ontario, Canada. His boldness of faith was remarkable. The healings in his ministry were well documented. One is recorded even while under some type of x-ray equipment as Lake lays hands on a mans leg and Dr’s watched the healing power of God restore every cell completely in front of their eyes.
Spokane Washington was elected as the healthiest city in America by the federal government at the time as a result of Lakes work in that city training ministers at his “healing rooms”
Hear is a small quote from a sermon he shared in London at a conference of the Church of England:
“…Men have mystified the gospel; they have philosophizes the gospel. The gospel of Jesus is as simple as can be. As God lived in the body and operated through the man Jesus, so the man on the throne, Jesus, operates through His body, the church, in the world.
Even as Jesus Himself was the representative of God the Father, so also the church is the representative of Christ. As Jesus yielded Himself unto all righteousness, so the church should yield herself to do all the will of Christ…
God left us here in this world to demonstrate Him, even as the Father left Jesus in the world to demonstrate the Father…”
THE HEART OF REVIVAL
Intro: To see something we’ve never seen before…To experience a sweeping move of God in our lives, and amongst our church family…To
Enter into those things we’ve been praying for, those things we believe for, those things prophesied in our presence…will only happen when we decide the same old same old we’ve been doing isn’t sufficient. When we choose to say yes to God, yes to God’s perfect will…when we say yes Lord, this life I live, I no longer live for my goal, my desires and my pleasure, but I live for Jesus, who gave Himself for me.
The Heart of Revival is the Heart of God
Mark 16:15-20 And He said to them…
The Heart of A Revival Begins in the Heart of Man
1Peter 3:8 Finally, all of you be of one mind, having compassion for one another; love as brothers, be tenderhearted, be courteous; 9 not returning evil for evil or reviling for reviling’ but on the contrary blessing, knowing that you were called to this, that you may inherit a blessing.
Notice verse 9 You were called to this! - This is your calling.
Herein is God’s will for YOU! Never again will you be unclear or say “I don’t know God’s will for my life.”
Be a blessing and you shall inherit a blessing.
(Many want a blessing, but the blessing comes after we become a blessing)
What is the greatest blessing a person can receive? Ans: eternal life
You are offering eternal life; you carry within yourself keys for the lost to be saved
Luke 6:27-31 (page 1397)
Luke 6:31 (Love’s behavior defined)
“And just as you want men to do to you, you also do to them likewise.”
Characteristics of A Heart In Revival
a. Kingdom of God minded
b. Servants heart
c. Consistent in faith
d. Faithful - dependable; people can count on you
How is it Possible To Walk in The God Kind Of Love?
How do we get to where we can really be His hands in the earth today?
1. Die To Self -- God 1st, everything else 2nd
We must get past the western cultural attitude that “it’s all about me” and see the big picture!
Hebrews 12:1-2 Therefore we also, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which so easily ensnares us, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us, looking unto Jesus, the author and the finisher of our faith…”
- The things we pay attention to GROW in our lives… so lets pay attention to the right things!
- In believing for revival I have come to this revelation; We MUST do our part to always be ready…God is always ready to pour out on those who draw near to Him… HOW CLOSE TO HIM WILL YOU GO?
IN DIEING TO SELF OUR HEART IS CHANGED
Hebrews 4:12 says God’s Word is a discerner of the heart.
The Word can reveal the heart of a man, how genuine, how mature in Christ, how godly. It can help us see where we are at, and what we must work on in ourselves - NEVER in others!
Malachi 1:6-8 (page 1268)
The Lord is looking for those who honor Him through acts of genuine love, not just out of duty.
Notice verse 11! (page 1269)
- This is a prophecy about us! We will get it right!
2. Renew our Mind With the Word
Romans 12:2 And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God.
-YOU are who the Word says YOU are AND YOU can do what the Word says YOU can do!
The Word in the good ground of our heart bears good fruit. Jesus said so Himself!
What do I do if I feel defeated or inadequate most of the time? How can
I ever come to a place where I feel God can use me?
Ans: The washing of the water of the Word! Feed on WHAT GOD SAYS ABOUT YOU!
WE ARE SALT! Therefore, everywhere we go we should flavor the atmosphere. (make sure we are kingdom of God flavored, not kingdoms of this world!!!)
HOW CAN WE GET THIS LOVE OF GOD TO COSISTENTLY FLOW IN OUR LIVES?
a) Daily feed and water your spirit
b) Be quick to forgive
c) Walk in love…always!
d) Obey the Lords promptings
e) Practice walking in the fruit of the Spirit on purpose!
Ephesians 3:17 that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith; that you, being rooted and grounded in love, 18 may be able to comprehend with all the saints what is the width and length and depth and height - 19 to know the love of Christ, which passes all knowledge; that you may be filled with all the fullness of God.
The comprehension of how much God loves me is what will bring about within me “all the fullness of God”
Christ - anointed one and His anointing. Not the man Jesus, but rather the Messiah, THE OFFICE, the Christ, IN YOU
Rooted -Plants, nutrients, water, time = growth *The washing of the water of the Word of God = a renewed mind! & Grounded: steady, on the level, secure, not flighty or subject to change.
Comprehend = understanding
Width - Room for all
Length - never gives up on a person. Love can outwait the holdout sinner
Depth - no matter how lost, or how evil, God’s love is greater
Height - Is only finally satisfied to lift you up with Him, “seating you in heavenly places in Christ”
How does one fail at receiving all the fullness of God? Ans: by not comprehending/understanding the love of Christ!
3. Live Your Life On Purpose!
Will it make a difference that you lived at all?
Jesus shows us how to make our life count. Not by building our name or fame, but by building the kingdom of God.
2Corinthians 4:18
The works of Jesus are whatever He tells you to do! Be obedient - Just do it! (sub-point “d” in point 2 above)
At Work, at school, at your health club, with your neighbors…You can be a blessing, demonstrating God’s love.
GENUINE LOVE IN ACTION IS THE CATALYST FOR REVIVAL
WHAT HAPPENS WHEN WE GET IT RIGHT?
ACTS 14:7-10
JOHN 14:12-14
ACTS 3:1-9
ACTS 8:5-7
REVIVAL IS INEVITABLE WHEN WE DEMONSTRATE THE KINGDOM OF GOD THROUGH LOVE AND POWER!!!
Hebrews 12:3-6 show us how we prove God’s will as mentioned in vs. 2
Conclusion:
John G Lake, William Seymore, F.F. Bosworth, William Branham, Oral Roberts, Kenneth E. Haggin, Katherine Kuhlman,…the list goes on. These are people who lived their lives on purpose!
