LEADERSHIP - LESSON TWO
IMITATE CHRIST
You will need your Bible and a pen & notebook to complete these lessons. You should be able to copy and paste these outlines to your word processor and print them without difficulty if you so desire. We recommend you record in your note book deep thoughts or questions that may arise as you study, and certainly record all things God reveals to your heart. Look over these notes frequently and use them even as you pray. God will cause you to grow in wisdom and understanding. Keep your note book with you throughout the day as much
as possible to record all God reveals to you and to review the things you have learned.
We also recommend you make a habit of memorizing a scripture each week. This not only helps get the Word deep in your heart, but is also an excellent mental exercise.
IMITATE ME AS I IMITATE CHRIST
Spotlight scripture: 1Corinthians 11:1
Imitate me, just as I also imitate Christ
Being a follower of Jesus is to be a person in leadership. I have heard it said that to think of one self as a leader, and to have no one following you, you're merely taking a walk. Although that sounds funny, the Word view is to walk worthy of being followed or imitated, regardless of whether you have followers. We live this way beacause it's the right thing to do, not for opportunity, accolades or acclaim.
To obey Christ is to make disciples. That doesn’t mean there isn’t a time in our life when we are not yet in that position. New believers, for example, aren’t ready to disciple others until they learn to walk with Jesus and hear His voice. A leader is one who is worth following.
Whether you feel like it or not, you are a leader in your home, work and community. To know God is the beginning of wisdom. Because of this, you are more qualified to lead than perhaps you possibly thought.
Leadership is a spiritual condition, not necessarily a positional one. Perhaps you are not called to a full time ministry gift. That does not disqualify you from leadership. We are all called to lead someone.
Six Steps To Being A Leader Worth Following
1. One worthy of following trusts God completely.
Psalm 7:1
2. One worthy of following is willing to remain teachable.
Matthew 11:29
In this way your leadership is always moving forward, always improving.
3. One worthy of following walks in the Word.
1John 2:3-6
4. One worthy of following is a constant companion of Jesus Christ.
1Timothy 1:12
All wisdom and revelation come from knowing Him (Ephesians 1:17)
5. One worthy of following willingly takes his place.
This simply means he/she isn't afraid to believe God's Word.
Ephesians 2:6 (see ch. 1:19-23)
This comes from knowing Him (1:17)
6. One worthy of following stays consistent.
Hebrews 6:12
James 1:25
