LEADERSHIP - LESSON 9

                                                 Motivated By God 

   You will need your Bible and a pen & notebook to complete these lessons. You should be able to copy and paste these outlines to your word processor and print them without difficulty if you so desire. We recommend you record in your note book deep thoughts or questions that may arise as you study, and certainly record all things God reveals to your heart. Look over these notes frequently and use them even as you pray. God will cause you to grow in wisdom and understanding. Keep your note book with you throughout the day as much

as possible to record all God reveals to you and to review the things you have learned.

   We also recommend you make a habit of memorizing a scripture each week. This not only helps get the Word deep in your heart, but is also an excellent mental exercise.

                                                            Motivated by God

Everyday we witness believers in all sorts of church related and ministry activities. Some will host a home group, some pastor a local church, some on street corners handing out tracts. There are people called to minister in nursing homes, in prisons, on the internet or on television. Some do a large work, some a small one, some are noticeable and some are in the background, but it’s all credited to kingdom work.

The bible encourages us to be a part of spreading the gospel and working within God’s kingdom. The Word even goes on to declare blessings on those who do. Jesus parable of the shrewd business man leaving talents with three others and expecting them to put it to use and have a return on investment upon the shrewd mans return, is a great example of this principle. Why then is there those who aren’t blessed and approved of God for their work? Why do some, in the end, hear the words ‘get away from Me, I never knew you’?

Today we will learn why some giving is blessed and some is not. Giving is not only referring to money, but includes all our efforts. We can give of our time, our prayers, our home, our attention, our lives.

1. Keep Quiet

Matthew 6:1 “Take heed that you do not do your charitable deeds before men, to be

seen by them. Otherwise you have no reward from your Father in heaven.”

- When a man’s self, and not the glory of God, is the chief end of any action, that

cannot be called a good work, nor will it have any reward; whereas a good work,

which springs from the principle of grace, and is directed to the glory of God, will

have a reward. From “Gills Commentary” John Gill., D.D.

2. Serve Humbly

Romans 12:3 For I say, through the grace given to me, to everyone who is among you,

not to think of himself more highly than he ought to think, but to think soberly, as God

has dealt to each one a measure of faith.

3. Walk in Love, Always.

Romans 13:10 Love does no harm to a neighbor; therefore love is the fulfillment of the law.

4. Follow Wisely

Luke 6:40 A disciple is not above his teacher, but everyone who is perfectly trained

will be like his teacher.

Conclusion: It is the motivation in our doing that separate’s the blessed from the rest. Many are out there looking good and doing works, but those walking in love, lifting up others rather than themselves, are those who are getting things right. Those talking about their gifts and their own anointing, attempting to draw attention to themselves are off track. Let’s determine to keep a watch over or inner man and be sure that why we do the things we do is love and service. Why we do it is more important than what we do!
