CHRISTIAN LIVING 2- LESSON 2 Notes
Your Relationship With God
You will need your Bible and a pen & notebook to complete these lessons. You should be able to copy and paste these outlines to your word processor and print them without difficulty if you so desire. We recommend you record in your note book deep thoughts or questions that may arise as you study, and certainly record all things God reveals to your heart. Look over these notes frequently and use them even as you pray. God will cause you to grow in wisdom and understanding. Keep your note book with you throughout the day as much as possible to record all God reveals to you and to mark them in your bible. It is Gods Word speaking directly to you.
We also recommend you make a habit of memorizing a scripture each week. This not only helps get the Word deep in your heart, but is also an excellent mental exercise.
YOUR RELATIONSHIP WITH GOD
~ An Invitation from Jesus: Become one with Me as I am one with the Father
(John 17:20-23)
Life Priority #1 : YOUR RELATIONSHIP WITH GOD!
Eternity is tied to relationship
John 17:3 “And this is eternal life, that they may know You, the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom You have sent”.
It isn’t church membership or good behavior (although these things are good) but rather our faith in Jesus and fellowship with God that leads us into God’s will for our lives.
A) Seeking God with your whole heart is a sure way to find Him.
~ Proverbs 8:17 I love those who love Me, and those who seek Me
diligently will find Me.
~ Matthew 7:7 Ask, and it shall be given you; seek and you will find;
knock, and it shall be opened unto you.
~ 1Thess 5:17 Pray without ceasing
In OT God desired so much to dwell among His people He had them build the ark of the covenant, basically a box for Himself to live in! Now, In our day, through faith in Jesus Christ, God can dwell in each of us!
1. Fellowship with Heavenly Father leads to His Presence in our life!
A) Doing Gods Word, not just hearing it, is step One
John 14:23 “If anyone loves Me, he will keep My word; and My
Father will love him, and we will come to him and make our home
with him.”
B) The secret Place:
~Psalm 91:1 He who dwells in the secret place of
the Most High shall abide under the shadow of The Almighty.
* dwells in: lives, abides, home! (Not just an occasional visit).
C) what is this Secret Place?
~Psalm 31:20 You shall hide them in the secret place of you presence.
2. His Presence in our lives equips us to Love! (the fruit of the Spirit)
* His very nature in us!
A) We grow and progress into His likeness through continued
fellowship.
~John 15:5 I am the vine, you are the branches. He who abides in Me.
And I in him, bears much fruit; for without Me you can do nothing.
B) Our lives can produce something good in this world!
~ Galatians 5:22-24 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace,
patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control.
Against such there is no law. And those who are Christ’s have
crucified the flesh with its passions and desires.
“You are the salt of the earth” -Flavor this world with Gods nature, love,
kindness, helpfulness etc…
“You are the light of the world” -Bring God’s love on the scene
everywhere you go!
C) The danger of Church life without love:
Matthew7:21-23 “Not everyone who says to Me, ‘Lord, Lord’ shall
enter the kingdom of heaven, but he who does the will of My Father in
heaven. Many shall say to Me in that day, ‘Lord, Lord, have we not
prophesied in Your name, cast out demons in Your name, and done
many wonders in Your name?’ And then I will declare to them, I never
knew you; depart from Me you who practice lawlessness!”
3. Through His Presence, Love in action brings about all facets
of the Blessing!
A) We live with supernatural experiences.
Mark 16:17-18 And these signs will follow those who believe…
(WILL, not maybe)
*all things are possible to him who believes
* with God all things are possible
B) All our needs are met!
Mathew 6:33 “Seek first the kingdom of
God and His righteousness and all these things shall be added unto
You.”
C) Our prayers get answered.
John 15:7 “If you abide in Me, and
My words abide in you, you will ask what you desire and it shall
be done for you”.
D) Gods Favor in our life. (FOG)
Psalm 6:12 …with favor you shall surround him as with a shield.
E) Protection
Psalm 91:1 He who dwells in the secret place of the Most High
shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty.
Psalm 32:7-8 You are my hiding place; You shall preserve me
from trouble; You shall surround me with songs of deliverance.
Also see Psalm 31:20
F) Destiny!
(He will lead you, you don’t have to worry about
your future, just follow His lead)
Psalm 32:8 ‘I will you and teach you in the way you should go; I
will guide you with My eye’.
Conclusion: It is in knowing Him that our priorities stay in tune with His will. Wandering around chasing this worlds goods is not what faith is for. Faith trusts and knows God will provide. It is Him we need in our life. Our hearts being changed to ones of compassion, generosity and kindness is the result of a life lived in Gods presence, truly connected to the vine!
